Video traffic surveys are now much more efficient and less expensive than manual surveys, bringing cost savings and reducing the health and safety requirements associated with traditional manual surveys.
Enumerating video traffic surveys in the conventional way can be time-consuming, requiring transfer to DVD from site media and then delivering to enumerators who then analyse, with the result that the data returned after QA can take several weeks to reach the end customer.
Northern Link’s N-WAVE (Northern Link Web Accessed Video Enumeration) offers cost-effective video traffic surveys by using the power of the internet to deliver enumerated date to your clients in less than time than ever before.
N-WAVE provides the speed and flexibility required to undertake road traffic surveys using video technology such as:
• Junction and roundabout turning counts
• Queue lengths
• Pedestrian movements/behaviour
• Car park control and Car park surveys
• Hazard perception and behaviour at traffic signal and any type of junction
• Transport modelling
• Environmental surveys of cycle paths, canals/rivers and bridleways
• Web based surveillance with real time camera systems
N-WAVE receives the standard digital video file format en masse from SD and CF cards, memory sticks, portable hard drives or DVD and uploads to our purpose built PC server suite where the data is compressed at a ratio of 4:1.
This is then made available via a special web based link which could then be analysed in less than 24 hours. You can realistically return analysed data after QA in 48 hours, with huge cost savings if overseas companies are used to analyse. N-WAVE reduces the traffic survey enumeration and delivery time, quickly and cost-effectively.
N-WAVE’s secret lies in its unique, variable speed on live streaming with negligible loss of image quality. This speeds up the analysis process by making it easy for the operator to toggle backwards and forwards whilst counting. On-screen controls are similar to those of a DVD or media player.
Benefits include:
• Ultra fast delivery of both recorded and analysed video traffic data in an of average 3 days, survey to desktop
• High compression rates to give safe and secure archive storage and low media space. A typical 12 hour survey nets down to 2-3 GB from 14-15 GB
• Almost no loss in image quality
• On screen enumeration controlled by standard controls fast forward, pause and rewind controls, together with unique fast 'speedup' buttons for 2x, 4x and even 6 and 8x speed up
• Analysis of a quiet three arm roundabout in 4-6 hours
Flexible charge bands are available for a wide variety of clients from the largest national traffic survey companies to the smaller borough councils
N-WAVE makes the modern shift to video from manual counting methods an obvious choice in time and budget savings and also removes Health and Safety issues and potential risk to staff and public.
Using cameras mounted on suitable bridges, mini-masts or vehicles, traffic can be monitored at any location, even at the largest motorway sites. The resulting high quality video is downloaded to an SD card or portable secure hard drive for later enumeration using N-WAVE. The multiple view screen feature means that on screen analysis for up to 4 arms on the largest junctions can be achieved without the need of expensive and space-hungry high mast camera vehicles. Also expensive split screen video/PC systems are no longer required as the footage can be viewed from within the N-WAVE ‘multi - screen’ view.
